About This Opportunity

The Georgetown Forensic Investigation Academy is a two-week intensive summer programme hosted at Georgetown University in Washington D.C., designed for high school students in grades 8 through 12 who are curious about the science and methodology behind criminal investigation. The programme provides firsthand exposure to how forensic professionals operate across law enforcement, medicine, and the judicial system.

Students engage with core forensic topics including crime scene diagramming, evidence collection, criminal investigative processes, video forensic analysis, fingerprinting, ballistics, blood spatter analysis, geographic profiling, and interviewing techniques. The curriculum places strong emphasis on critical thinking and the application of scientific and medical knowledge in real-world law enforcement contexts.

Learning is structured around lectures, mock crime scene simulations, field trips, and case studies, with guest speakers drawn from the D.C. Department of Forensic Science, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department homicide, sexual assault, and cold case units, as well as veteran investigators. Commuter tuition is USD 5,075; residential tuition including housing and meals is USD 6,465. A USD 50 non-refundable application fee applies (waived for Early Bird applications by January 31). International students add a USD 90 health insurance fee. Need-based scholarships covering tuition only are available on a competitive basis; scholarship deadline is March 2.
