About This Opportunity
The International GENIUS Short Film Olympiad is a prestigious global competition for high school students, organized by Terra Science and Education and hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology. This Olympiad emphasizes the power of film as a medium to inspire awareness and action regarding global environmental challenges. Participants are encouraged to create animated, live-action, or documentary short films that transport viewers into a scene, evoke emotional change, and motivate them towards addressing environmental issues.
This competition is open to high school students in grades 8-12 (or equivalent) from any country, with a minimum age of 13 years old and a maximum age of 18. Students under 17 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. All presentations must be in English, and non-English films require English subtitles. Projects can be submitted individually or by a team of up to two students.
Participants gain valuable experience in filmmaking and environmental advocacy, with opportunities for national and international recognition. Award winners receive RIT University scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $20,000, which are renewable. All participants receive a GENIUS Participation Certificate, and the event offers a platform for cultural exchange and networking with students from over 80 countries.
