About This Opportunity
The Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest is an international competition encouraging middle and high school students to explore and express their connection to nature and ocean conservation through creative arts, specifically film. This platform allows young people to research environmental challenges, understand their impact, and advocate for positive change through visual storytelling.
This contest is open to students aged 11-18 worldwide, currently enrolled in middle or high school, or its homeschool equivalent. Participants can submit individually or as part of a group. Students under 13 require parental consent, and all participants need an adult sponsor to oversee their involvement.
Winners receive cash awards up to $1,000 USD and gain significant recognition for their creative work. The contest helps students develop crucial skills in communication, critical thinking, creativity, and environmental advocacy. Selected films are showcased in an exclusive online exhibition, contributing to a global collection of youth environmental arts.
The theme, "Connections to Nature: Looking Inside, Going Outside," encourages participants to reflect deeply on their personal relationship with the natural world. Submissions are judged on how effectively they address this annual theme and prompt, demonstrating both artistic merit and environmental understanding.
