About This Opportunity

The Shanmukhananda Annual Music Competition - Violin is the Carnatic violin stream of one of India's longest-running classical music contests, organised every year by Sri Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha in Mumbai.

The competition is open to boys and girls in the Carnatic violin discipline. Competitors are grouped by age into Group I (10 to 15 years), with proof of age required at entry. Each competitor must arrange their own instrument, Shruti and Talam accompaniment, and presentations are timed by the judges.

The violin stream features endowment and memorial prizes instituted by leading Carnatic patrons and musicians of the violin tradition. Entry forms are issued from the Sabha's Sangeetha Vidyalaya office in Sion East, Mumbai, with a non-refundable entrance fee of Rs. 200 per entry. First prize winners in a particular group in previous editions are not eligible to re-enter the same group, and All India Radio or Doordarshan-listed artistes cannot participate.
