About This Opportunity
Vikaas is a Day Care Scheme operated by The National Trust under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. It is designed to expand the range of opportunities available to a person with disability for enhancing interpersonal, pre-vocational and vocational skills, while giving family caregivers structured time during the day to fulfil other responsibilities.
The scheme is open to persons with disability aged ten years or more covered under the National Trust Act, 1999, namely autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities. Registered Organisations of The National Trust operate Vikaas centres that maintain a one-to-one ratio of low-income-group beneficiaries and others, with full Trust funding for eligible LIG and BPL beneficiaries.
Each centre runs for at least six hours per day between eight in the morning and six in the evening on at least twenty-one days per month. Activities include special education, vocational and pre-vocational training, occupational and physiotherapy, counselling for persons with disability and caregivers, daily living skills practice, age-specific recreation and trained caregiver support.
Funding includes a one-time setup grant of one lakh ninety-five thousand rupees to the Registered Organisation, monthly reimbursement of three thousand eight hundred and fifty rupees per beneficiary, an optional one thousand rupees transport allowance per month, and three months of sustenance support after setup. A Disability Certificate is required for enrolment, and the scheme cannot be combined with Samarth or Gharaunda enrolment.
