About This Opportunity
The Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS), branded as Loktantra Ki Pathshala, is a nationwide civic education initiative launched by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj. The programme brings the working of the Gram Sabha into school classrooms, allowing students from Classes 9 to 12 to enact the roles of sarpanch, ward members, panchayat secretary, and villagers.
Through structured role-play, debates, and resolution-passing exercises, students experience deliberation, consensus-building, and participatory decision-making on real issues of village life such as water, sanitation, education, and women's safety.
The initiative is implemented in collaboration with the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. In its first phase, MYGS is rolled out across more than 1,100 schools, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, and selected state government schools.
After the school-level mock Gram Sabhas, participating schools advance to regional rounds and then to a national-level competition. Each participating school receives a one-time financial support of ₹20,000 to conduct the mock Gram Sabha, and a dedicated MYGS Portal along with a training module supports teachers and students.
