About This Opportunity

The YJI Travel Writing category is part of the annual Youth Journalism International Excellence in Journalism Contest, recognizing outstanding travel journalism by young writers. This category celebrates experiential and observational pieces that capture the essence of places, cultures, and experiences through a journalistic lens.

Non-professional journalists aged 19 and under from any country may submit previously published travel writing in English. Entries should demonstrate strong observational skills and the ability to convey the character of a destination or travel experience through vivid, descriptive prose.

Winners receive custom-made award certificates, with recognition from first place to honorable mention. All entries are evaluated by a global panel of more than two dozen judges, including professional journalists, teachers, and media experts from around the world.

The category provides an international platform for young travel writers to showcase their work and develop skills in descriptive journalism, cultural reporting, and narrative storytelling.
