About this opportunity
The Camel Art Contest is a school painting competition run by Kokuyo Camlin Limited for students from kindergarten to Class 12. It was formerly known as the All India Camel Colour Contest and has run for over four decades.
Students are divided into six groups by class, and each group is given its own theme for that edition. Entries are painted by hand on an A3 or quarter imperial sheet using Camel art materials, in a single timed session held at the student's own school. Themes change every edition and are announced when the contest opens.
Judging runs at three levels. Educators judge at the school level and shortlist entries for the zonal round, where artists and educators form the jury. Zonal winners go forward to the Grand Finale, where child psychologists also sit on the jury.
Winners receive medals, plaques, trophies and certificates according to the level reached. The organiser states that it does not award cash prizes to children. Instead, the school of each Grand Finale first prize winner receives an art infrastructure grant, and what is built carries the winner's name. Entries are accepted from schools in India and from schools in other countries.

Award
₹50,000 art grant for winner's school
Under the Grand Prize Great Gift scheme the school of each Grand Finale first prize winner receives ₹50,000 sponsored by Kokuyo Camlin to build art infrastructure, and what is built carries the winner's name. The grant is paid to the school, not to the child, and the organiser states that it deliberately awards no cash prizes to children.

Rounds & format
The contest runs in three rounds. Students paint at their own school in a single timed session, and school educators judge those entries to shortlist candidates for the zonal round. Zonal judging is done by a jury of artists and educators. Zonal winners go forward to the Grand Finale, where child psychologists join the jury. Zonal results and the winning grand finale paintings are published on the contest microsite.
How entries are judged
Entries are judged on imagination and creativity in interpreting the theme set for the group, rather than on technical finish. Original work is required: copying or colouring a pre-printed drawing is not accepted, and work touched by a parent or teacher can be rejected. Participants may write a few lines explaining their creation, which the jury may read alongside the painting.
Selection process
About one percent of participants are shortlisted at the school level and go through to zonal judging. Zonal winners then advance to the grand finale. At both the zonal and grand finale levels each group awards a first, second and third prize plus 5 to 15 appreciation prizes. The jury's decision is final and participation alone does not entitle anyone to a prize.

Fees & financial support
Fee details
No registration or entry fee is charged. The school registration form carries no payment step. The only cost is the art material itself: participants supply their own Camel colours for their group and an A3 drawing sheet, and each painting must carry a contest entry label found inside Camel product packs.
