About This Opportunity
FILMIT India is the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage's flagship heritage education programme that empowers school students to document the tangible and intangible heritage of their own cities through short films. Now supported by the Government of India, the programme is run by INTACH's Heritage Education and Communication Service (HECS) and operates in over 23 cities across the country.
Participating teams of school students attend a structured content workshop where INTACH resource persons train them in heritage research, story development, scripting, basic cinematography, sound and editing. Students then go out into their city to film a 3-minute short on a chosen heritage theme, with mentor guidance through the production cycle.
Completed films are screened and judged at the annual Kolkata, Delhi and other city-level FILMIT Festivals, with awards for categories such as Best Story, Best Film With A Message, Sound Design, Light Design and Concept Design. Top films are showcased nationally as part of INTACH's heritage outreach.
With over 8,000 student films produced and 146 schools and nearly 3,000 students participating in the most recent edition, FILMIT is one of India's largest school-level heritage filmmaking initiatives and a strong creative pathway for children interested in films, history, culture and storytelling.
