Frequently asked questions
How can Middle School students prepare for the personal finance and business topics on the syllabus?
Preparation benefits from reviewing core terms like supply, demand, inflation, saving and budgeting through practice quizzes. Discussing everyday business examples with a coach or teacher helps make abstract economic concepts easier to recall quickly.
How does the team scoring system affect strategy for Middle School teams?
Since only the top two individual scores count toward the team total, teams often pair a stronger economics reader with a stronger business-terms reader to maximize coverage across the syllabus.
What advantage does this competition offer Middle School participants academically?
Participation in an internationally recognized competition under The Harvard Crimson brand builds an early academic profile in economics and business, alongside developing analytical and teamwork skills useful for future coursework.
How are the live Semi-Final and Final rounds different from the preliminary test?
The Semi-Final and Final are live rapid-fire Zoom sessions rather than a written test, requiring quick verbal or typed responses under time pressure. Teams that qualify should practice fast recall alongside written problem-solving.
