About this opportunity
The IIT Madras School Connect Program offers 8-week online certificate courses to school students in Grades 9 to 12. The Centre for Outreach and Digital Education (CODE) at IIT Madras runs it, to help students explore emerging fields and decide on their future studies and careers. Courses include Introduction to Data Science and AI, Introduction to Law, The Fundamentals of Aerospace, Introduction to Ecology and Introduction to Product Design.
Students join through their own school, which must first partner with IIT Madras. Partnering costs the school nothing: it nominates a teacher as the single point of contact, and IIT Madras then shares the course registration link. Students currently in Grades 9 to 12, of any stream, can join; former students and teachers cannot. Each course states its own eligibility: Introduction to Forensic Sciences I is for Grades 9 and 10, and Part II for Grades 11 and 12.
Each course costs ₹500. The student pays online while registering, or the school collects the fee and sends it to IIT Madras. The fee is not refundable.
A 1-hour recorded lecture is released every Monday, to watch any time that week, and a live session for doubts is held on Saturday evenings. There are 4 online assignments, one every 2 weeks, each with 2 weeks to submit. A student can take 1 course per batch, and courses run in 4 batches a year, in January, April, August and October.
A student who passes 3 of the 4 assignments gets a participation e-certificate from CODE, IIT Madras. A student who then scores at least 40 marks in the optional online final exam gets a completion certificate. A student who submits the optional take-home project gets a separate e-certificate, awarded on the instructors' evaluation of the project.
