About This Opportunity

The Indian Schools Debating Championship (ISDC) is India's premier national debating competition for high school students, organized by the Indian Schools Debating Society (ISDS). This championship provides a high-quality learning and competitive experience in the World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) format. It features experienced debaters from the international circuit who set topics, adjudicate debates, and offer valuable feedback to participants.

This competition is open to school teams from across India, primarily for students in grades 9-12. To encourage younger debaters, ISDC also allows teams to register an additional non-speaking member from grade 8. Participants are expected to demonstrate strong argumentation, clarity, and engagement with various topics.

Participants will significantly enhance their public speaking, critical thinking, and analytical skills. Top performers and finalists have the unique opportunity to directly enter the last stage of selections for the Indian National Debating Squad. The championship also offers the Lumiere Resilience in Debate and Education (L.R.I.D.E.) Award, which includes a scholarship for the Lumiere Individual Research Programme.

The competition includes preliminary and knockout rounds conducted online via Zoom, with the Grand Final held in-person in Chennai. This hybrid format provides a unique platform for students to compete with top debate schools nationwide and receive mentorship from experts.
