About this opportunity
Reading for Life is British Council India's annual reading initiative for children, designed to help young readers move from learning to read toward reading to learn through guided access to a curated library collection.
The programme is open to children aged 5 to 12 years, grouped into two age bands, and takes place in person at British Council libraries. Participation requires prior online registration and attendance at a mandatory orientation session before the reading period begins.
Across the challenge, participants read from the library's curated collection spanning genres such as adventure, mystery, fantasy, and real-life stories, while taking part in creative writing and reflective activities that build comprehension and critical thinking. Those who complete the challenge receive a certificate and a medal at a closing ceremony.
Registered participants also gain exposure to British Council's wider library resources and reading-related events for children. The programme runs annually, typically during the summer months, with each edition built around a fresh reading theme.

Conducted in person at British Council libraries in Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata; the city is only the event venue, so children from any state may register. Prior online registration and attendance at an orientation session are mandatory. A nominal fee applies, discounted for existing library members.
