About This Opportunity
The Tata Social Enterprise Challenge (TSEC) is a prestigious national-level competition jointly organised by Tata Sons and the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta). TSEC identifies, rewards, and supports India's most promising early-stage social enterprises and social entrepreneurs through a rigorous multi-stage evaluation and mentorship process.
Participants submit a detailed Impact Proposal, following which shortlisted teams participate in regional pitching rounds held across four zones in India. Top teams advance to the Grand Finale where they pitch before a distinguished jury comprising Tata Group leaders, venture capitalists, IIM Calcutta faculty, and renowned social entrepreneurs. Shortlisted teams also receive a three-week mentorship programme at the IIM Calcutta campus.
The competition covers sectors including agriculture, healthcare, water and sanitation, education, technology, housing, handloom, energy, and microfinance. TSEC has received over 3,000 applications in a single edition, and its alumni include transformative ventures such as DeHaat, Phool, and ERC Eye Care.
Winners receive cash prizes of up to Rs. 10 Lakhs, and finalists get the opportunity to pitch for seed funding of up to Rs. 1 Crore through Tata Sons' seed fund corpus and partner impact investors including the Gates Foundation, Ankur Capital, Social Alpha, and Villgro Innovations Foundation.
