About
Animal Care Trust (ACT) is a registered charitable trust that rescues, treats and shelters homeless street animals and birds. Formed in 2000 and run by a board of trustees, it operates Vatsalya, a dedicated animal shelter that has housed and treated thousands of animals since 2006. The trust runs Animal Birth Control and Anti Rabies Vaccination programmes for community dogs and cats, carries out rescue operations for animals in distress, and places rescued puppies and kittens for adoption. It also conducts humane education sessions in schools and colleges covering animal rights, prevention of cruelty and living alongside community animals. ACT is recognised by the Animal Welfare Board of India and employs eleven full time personnel alongside two veterinarians. Donations to the trust are exempt under section 80G of the Income Tax Act, and the trust states that it is registered to receive foreign contributions under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. Volunteers support rescues, shelter routines, adoptions and foster care.
