About
The Azim Premji Foundation, established in 2001 by Azim Premji (founder of Wipro Limited), is a non-profit organization committed to advancing equity and quality in education across India. While its broader initiatives span education, health, and livelihoods, one of its most impactful efforts is the Azim Premji Scholarship Program. The scholarship focuses on supporting girls from government schools who pursue higher education, ensuring financial barriers do not hinder their aspirations. Each eligible student receives ₹30,000 annually, disbursed directly into their bank accounts in two instalments. Starting as a pilot, the program has now expanded to benefit over 2.5 lakh girl students across 18 states, with a commitment of ₹2,250 crore over three years. Scholarships are awarded to those entering undergraduate or diploma programs in recognized institutions, with a simple renewal process ensuring continuity for deserving students. By targeting girls from underserved backgrounds, the program not only improves access to higher education but also contributes to long-term social equity. Through this large-scale scholarship initiative, the Azim Premji Foundation complements its work in schools and universities, empowering young women to achieve their educational and career goals while driving systemic change in Indian society.
