About

Bannerghatta Biological Park is a state-run zoological park and wildlife conservation facility that combines a zoo, safari, butterfly park, and rescue centre under a single administration. The park focuses on ex-situ conservation, captive breeding of endangered species, wildlife rescue, and public education around biodiversity. Governed by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka under the Government of Karnataka, the park operates in line with the National Zoo Policy and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on life on land. Its mandate spans scientific research, visitor education, and species conservation across a wide range of native and exotic wildlife. The park runs several structured public engagement initiatives, including a student-focused Zoo Club, a Wildlife Awareness Programme, an animal adoption scheme, and internship placements for students in veterinary and life sciences. It also maintains a dedicated Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre and an Elephant Care Centre supporting long-term animal welfare.
