About
The Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous national centre established in 1988 under the University Grants Commission, located on the Savitribai Phule Pune University campus in Pune, Maharashtra. IUCAA is one of India's premier research institutions in astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology, supporting research programs at universities across the country. IUCAA operates major research facilities and instruments, including participation in the AstroSat space mission and the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT). The centre maintains a strong public outreach program through its Science Popularisation (SciPOP) division, which organizes educational programs, camps, and workshops for school students, teachers, and the general public. IUCAA's science education initiatives include the Summer and Winter Astronomy Programmes for school students, teacher training workshops, and astronomy popularisation activities. The centre has trained thousands of students and teachers in scientific reasoning and astronomy over four decades.
