About

Katha India is a non-profit organization founded in 1988 by Geeta Dharmarajan with a mission to create reader-leaders through StoryPedagogy, bringing meaningful learning and the joy of reading to children, especially those facing reading challenges. The organization works across 22 states in India through partnerships with government schools and community-based programs. It has impacted over 1.23 million children, trained 41,000 teachers, and built a network of 100,000+ volunteers and 3,200+ school partnerships. Katha runs the Katha Lab School, vocational training initiatives, the Katha Utsav National Writers' Workshop, and Storyshop publishing. Its flagship offerings include the StoryPedagogy curriculum, the Children as Storytellers initiative, the 300M learning platform, and ongoing teacher training programs that strengthen reading and writing across Indian classrooms.
