About
The Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board is a state-level statutory tripartite welfare board operating under the Department of Labour, Government of Maharashtra. The Board was constituted on 1 May 2011 under the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996. It is funded through the Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Cess Act, 1996, which levies one per cent of construction project costs. The Board registers construction workers across Maharashtra and disburses cess-funded welfare benefits across education, health, housing, social security, marriage, maternity, disability, and death assistance. It administers an Integrated Welfare Board Management System (IWBMS) for online registration and claim filing. Key welfare schemes include seven distinct educational welfare schemes (E01 through E07) for construction workers' children covering Class I through professional and post-graduate courses, the Atal Bandhkam Kamgar Awas Yojana for housing, marriage assistance schemes for first marriage and daughter's marriage, maternity benefits, accidental and natural death assistance, funeral assistance, permanent disability assistance, and a girl child fixed deposit scheme. The Board also operates skill-development and recognition-of-prior-learning programmes for registered workers.
