National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC), Department of Science and Technology

The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) operates as a vital division under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Established in 1982 and fully operational by 1984, its core mandate is to effectively communicate science and technology to the public, fostering a scientific and technological temper nationwide. NCSTC's extensive work encompasses a wide array of outreach activities, specialized training in science communication, and the development and dissemination of innovative science software. The council actively implements field-based science communication projects, conducts research, and engages in international cooperation to motivate students and teachers across India. The NCSTC is renowned for its flagship programs, including the National Children's Science Congress, active since 1993, and the biennial National Teachers' Science Congress. It also spearheads National Science Day observances every February 28th, along with initiatives like AWSAR, Mission Enlighten, and Mission eco NEXT, significantly contributing to science popularization. The council effectively implements its programs nationwide through the NOSTC-Network, a robust federation comprising government and non-government organizations, science centers, and voluntary bodies. This network ensures widespread reach and impact at state, district, and grassroots levels across India.
