About

Nature Conservation Foundation is an Indian research and conservation organization working to understand and protect wildlife and natural habitats. Founded in 1996 as a public charitable trust, it combines long-term field research with conservation practice and public engagement. The organization works across five programme areas: the Eastern Himalaya, high altitudes, oceans and coasts, the Western Ghats, and education and public engagement. Its research spans coral reefs, tropical rainforests and the high Himalaya, and its conservation work is carried out alongside local communities, government departments and research institutions. Through its Education and Public Engagement programme the foundation runs nationwide citizen-science and nature education initiatives, including SeasonWatch, Bird Count India, State of India's Birds and Nature Education. These programmes invite students, teachers and the wider public to record observations of trees and birds, building national datasets that researchers use in conservation planning.
