About

Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) is the welfare wing of the Indian Navy, originally founded in 1948 in Mumbai as Naval Officers Wives Association and reconstituted in its present form in 1985. The body brings together the spouses of serving and retired naval personnel to support the larger naval community across stations in India. The association works in four focus areas: women empowerment, education, community welfare, and outreach. NWWA runs creches for children of the naval fraternity and working women, supports a school for differently abled children, and partners with naval health facilities for healthcare initiatives. NWWA also extends financial assistance and scholarships to dependents of naval personnel, with particular focus on children of deceased sailors and officers. The association coordinates support through regional chapters at major naval stations, including Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi, Chennai, Karwar, and Port Blair, and through the Central Executive Committee at Naval Headquarters, New Delhi. Through programmes such as Aashirwad, NAVI, Sparsh, and Tarsh, NWWA supports veernaris, former sailors' wives, and widows with welfare assistance, vocational training, and educational support, alongside community awareness initiatives across naval stations.
