About
The Naturalist School is an Indian non-profit that helps people build professional careers and livelihoods in nature, wildlife and ecotourism. Registered as Fig Tree Naturalist Foundation, a Section 8 company incorporated in 2021, it describes itself as a centre of excellence offering certifications and courses in wildlife and nature interpretation. Its stated mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world by bringing alive the naturalist in each person, working towards a future that encourages coexistence with nature. The organization is accredited by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training and the Tourism and Hospitality Skills Council, and is a Skill India training partner for the government-recognized Nature Guide job role. Alongside its certification courses, the school coordinates City Nature Challenge India together with WWF-India, COCOON and CitizenScience.Asia, and runs citizen naturalist and capacity-building programmes. Its advisory team includes retired forest service officers, university faculty and staff of the Wildlife Institute of India.
