Thespo

Thespo is India's premier youth theatre initiative, established in Mumbai in 1999 by theatre practitioners associated with Rage Productions. The organization is dedicated to nurturing young talent in the performing arts, drawing its name from Thespis, the ancient Greek figure credited as the first stage actor. The flagship event is the annual Thespo Youth Theatre Festival, held every December at Mumbai's iconic Prithvi Theatre. This festival exclusively showcases theatre practitioners aged 25 and under, featuring full-length plays, short plays, workshops, and readings from across India. Beyond the festival, Thespo conducts year-round activities including theatre workshops, mentorship programs by senior practitioners, and fosters a national network for young theatre makers. The initiative has significantly contributed to launching the careers of many prominent figures in Indian theatre, film, and television. Thespo operates as a non-profit, emphasizing accessibility in theatre. Festival performances are offered at free or very low ticket prices, actively encouraging participation from youth theatre groups nationwide.
