About This Opportunity
AFS Intercultural Programs India provides diverse cultural exchange opportunities, including high school programs, short-term cultural learning adventures, and language immersion initiatives. These programs are designed to help young individuals develop essential global competencies, enhance intercultural communication skills, and gain a deeper appreciation for various cultures. Participants typically live with host families and attend local schools, fully immersing themselves in a new cultural environment.
Eligibility for the AFS High School Program generally requires students to be between 15 and 17.5 years old at the program's start. Applicants should demonstrate strong personal qualities, be results-oriented, possess social empathy, and have an awareness of both Indian culture and global issues. Specific programs, such as the YES program, may have additional academic requirements and family income criteria.
Through these programs, participants establish strong connections with their host country's people and way of life, forming new relationships that significantly broaden their perspectives. They cultivate a passion for understanding diverse cultures, improve language fluency, and develop a lifelong interest in international affairs. The experience also enhances adaptability in new situations, fostering significant personal growth and self-awareness.
AFS programs are supported by experienced staff and a global network of dedicated volunteers, ensuring a safe and enriching experience. The educational framework is built upon over 75 years of expertise in running exchange programs across more than 50 countries, with a strong emphasis on developing active global citizens.
