About This Opportunity

The e-Yantra Virtual Museum Competition is an online project-based learning competition organized by e-Yantra, IIT Bombay. Students create virtual museum exhibits featuring historical and cultural artifacts by learning 3D modeling, photogrammetry, digital poster design, and research techniques to render real historical objects in a virtual 3D space.

The competition is open to students in Grades 7 to 12 across India. Participants work in teams over a 7-8 week period, mentored by e-Yantra team members from IIT Bombay. The program combines technology skills with cultural heritage documentation, encouraging students to research and digitally preserve artifacts from museums across India.

Finalists are selected for a Grand Finale with awards in categories such as Most Consistent Team, Most Innovative Design, and Most Dramatic Exhibit. Top performers receive merit certificates from e-Yantra, IIT Bombay, and their projects are showcased on the e-Yantra Virtual Museum website, creating a student-built digital heritage collection.

Rounds & format

The competition includes six tasks and one bonus activity. Resources and problem statements will be provided on each task release day. The e-Yantra team will notify via email on every task release to the registered email address.

How entries are judged

Projects are judged on creativity, innovation, technical execution (3D modeling, photogrammetry, video editing), research methodology, storytelling, and teamwork. Awards are given for categories such as Most Consistent Team, Most Innovative Design, and Most Dramatic Exhibit.
