About this opportunity
FIRST LEGO League Explore is the 6 to 10 age band of the global FIRST LEGO League programme, delivered in India by FIRST India. A team of up to 6 students works through a themed season with a coach, learning the fundamentals of engineering, robotics, coding and teamwork.
Over the season the team uses LEGO Education SPIKE Essential, one set recommended per team. The season theme set is included with the team's FIRST India registration, and the team needs at least one laptop or tablet to program with the LEGO Education software. Teams build LEGO models, create motorised solutions and present their ideas, then take their work to a tournament.
A team registers directly with FIRST India, receives the season theme set, and works through the season with its coach. It then competes at one of the six regional tournaments held across the country in January, and teams that do well there advance to the India National Championship.
Registration is per team rather than per student, so the cost is shared across the team, and coach and mentor training is free through the global FIRST training portal.

How entries are judged
Explore is a presentation-and-showcase programme rather than a scored head-to-head contest. Teams show their LEGO model, their motorised solution and their team poster to reviewers, and talk through what they explored and how they worked together. Reviewers look at how the team explored the season theme, how the model and its motorised parts work, and how well the team shares what it learned and works together.
Selection process
Entry is open: any team that registers and pays can take part, and there is no qualifying round before the regional tournament. Teams are assigned to one of the six regional tournaments. Explore teams are celebrated rather than ranked against each other in a points table. Reviewers recognise teams for their explorations, their models and posters, and their teamwork, and every team is acknowledged for taking part.

Team registration is Rs 16,720 plus GST of Rs 3,010, for a total of Rs 19,730, paid once per team on the official FIRST India payment page. It includes the season theme set. The LEGO Education hardware the team needs is bought separately from an authorised reseller, and travel to the tournament is the team's own cost.
