About this opportunity
FIRST LEGO League Future Edition 8+ is the 8 to 16 age band of the global FIRST LEGO League programme, delivered in India by FIRST India. A team of up to 8 students works through a themed season with a coach, learning robotics, computer science, artificial intelligence, programming, engineering, research and real-world problem solving.
Over the season the team uses LEGO Education Computer Science and AI Set, two sets per team, plus 2 single motors, 2 controllers and 1 connection card set for the 8+ configuration. The season theme set is included with the team's FIRST India registration, and the team needs at least one laptop or tablet to program with the LEGO Education software. Teams build and program a robot, research the season theme and develop an innovation project, then take their work to a tournament.
A team registers directly with FIRST India, receives the season theme set, and works through the season with its coach. It then competes at one of the six regional tournaments held across the country in January, and teams that do well there advance to the India National Championship.

How entries are judged
Teams are assessed across the strands FIRST LEGO League has always used: the robot and how it performs the season missions, the innovation project the team researches and proposes, the team's robot design and programming choices, and FIRST Core Values, which cover teamwork, inclusion and how the team works together. Judges interview the team as well as watching the robot run.
Selection process
Entry is open: any team that registers and pays can take part, and there is no qualifying round before the regional tournament. Teams are assigned to one of the six regional tournaments. Awards recognise performance across all the strands, not the robot alone: robot performance, robot design, the innovation project, and Core Values, alongside the overall champion's award. Advancement to the India National Championship follows from the regional tournament results.

Team registration for the 2026-27 season is Rs 59,188 plus GST of Rs 10,654, Rs 69,842 in total, paid once per team on the official FIRST India payment page. It includes the season theme set. The LEGO Education hardware the team needs is bought separately from an authorised reseller, and travel to the tournament is the team's own cost.
