About this opportunity
HMI Adventure Course is a 15-day residential adventure programme conducted by the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling. The course gives young participants a structured introduction to outdoor adventure under qualified instructors, blending classroom training at the HMI campus with multi-day trekking in the Singalila range.
The programme is open to boys and girls aged 12 to 17 and runs in fixed batches across the year. Participants take part in rock climbing, rappelling, obstacle courses, camping, tent pitching, swimming, kayaking, and a graded trek through Jaubari, Kalapokhari, Banglatar, Kainjaley, Goke, and Singla. Each batch concludes with a graduation ceremony at the HMI campus.
Fees are highly subsidised: thirteen thousand two hundred and eighty-seven rupees for Indian participants, covering food, accommodation, equipment, transportation, medicines, and training. Each batch admits up to seventy participants. Trainees must submit a recent medical fitness certificate, demonstrate the ability to complete a fifteen-kilometre trek with a fifteen to eighteen kilogram load, and be able to communicate in Hindi or English.
