Kala Bharathi is the arts wing of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Bengaluru Kendra, where students learn Carnatic vocal music through a structured five-year diploma taught by senior performing musicians.
The diploma runs as a three-year Junior stage followed by a two-year Senior stage. Classes are held on weekends, on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings, so the course fits alongside regular schooling. Students may join at either the Race Course Road centre or the South centre at Chamarajpet, and both centres run the same graded syllabus.
Teaching is led by Vidushi Smt. H. V. Gayathri, who has twenty years of experience teaching Carnatic vocal music, and Vidushi Smt. B. N. Bhagirathi, a gold medallist in M.A. and B.A. Carnatic Music and a B High grade artist with All India Radio. Theory and practical examinations are conducted by external examiners and are optional, so students who want the training without the assessment may take the course purely as a hobby.
