About this opportunity
The Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIA) and State Level Khelo India Centres (SLKIC) verticals together form the elite training-infrastructure layer of the Khelo India scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, with the Sports Authority of India serving as the nodal implementing agency. Under the Gymnastics discipline, both private accredited academies and state-supported Khelo India Centres deliver structured training, coaching, and competition exposure to identified young gymnasts across India.
Khelo India Accredited Academies are private or institutional academies that meet defined infrastructure, coaching, and athlete-development standards set by SAI. Once accredited for gymnastics, an academy becomes eligible to host Khelo India Athletes (KIAs), who receive consolidated annual support covering training, sports kit, boarding and lodging, sports science, medical insurance, educational expenses, and an out-of-pocket allowance, as per scheme norms. Athletes train under expert coaches with regular performance monitoring and exposure to district, state, and national gymnastics competitions.
State Level Khelo India Centres operate as a low-cost, district-anchored training mechanism. Each notified gymnastics SLKIC engages experienced coaches (often past champion gymnasts) and is supported by recurring and one-time grants per discipline. SLKIC trainees are progressively integrated into the broader Khelo India athlete pipeline based on assessed performance.
Accreditation and notification operate on rolling cycles. State governments, sports federations, and academy operators apply through prescribed Expression of Interest processes published by SAI and the Ministry. Selection of trainee gymnasts at each accredited academy or notified centre is carried out by domain-expert committees through standardised physical, technical, and medical assessments.
