About this opportunity
Project Assist is the flagship rehabilitation scheme of the National Foundation for Communal Harmony, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The scheme provides regular monthly financial assistance for the physical and psychological rehabilitation of children whose parents or main earning member were killed or permanently incapacitated due to communal, caste, ethnic, or terrorist violence.
The assistance is intended to support the child's care, education, and training and to keep families together during very difficult periods. Eligibility focuses on children who become orphan or destitute because both parents, or the surviving parent, or the main bread winner is no longer able to provide for the family due to such violence. The annual family income of the victim's family must not exceed ₹1,00,000 and the child should not be receiving regular assistance from another similar source.
Children in Class A and B cities receive ₹800 per month under the scheme until they reach the age of 18 years. Applications are routed through the concerned District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) of the affected district, who verifies the case and forwards it to NFCH. The Foundation periodically reviews beneficiary lists in coordination with state governments to ensure that genuine cases continue to receive uninterrupted support.
Project Assist complements other state-level victim compensation schemes and is recognised by the Ministry of Home Affairs as a long-term rehabilitation initiative for child victims of violence.
