About This Opportunity
The Non-Trivial Summer Research Fellowship is the second tier of Non-Trivial's three-stage research pipeline that runs from Research Foundations through Research Fellows to Research Scholars. Fellows are selected from those who complete Research Foundations and conduct an eight-week, part-time, fully online summer research project on questions that could make a substantial difference in the world.
Fellows receive weekly one-to-one sessions with facilitators at top universities, guided worksheets for project planning, a research toolkit, a Discord community, peer matching calls and exclusive expert Q&A sessions. Past expert speakers include Peter Singer at Princeton, Yoshua Bengio, Rachel Glennerster at the University of Chicago, and Matt Clifford of Entrepreneur First and ARIA. Topics span global priorities, AI safety, biosecurity, policy and entrepreneurial projects.
The programme is open to high school students from anywhere in the world who have not yet started university, including Indian students, except those in countries subject to UK sanctions. There are no fees to apply or participate. Fellows commit to a minimum of ten hours per week with a flexible schedule and present at a Demo Day in week eight.
Project grants of up to one thousand US dollars are available to Fellows to support project resources or personal compensation. Top performers can be selected for the Research Scholars tier, where the top three projects receive ten thousand US dollar scholarships and other Scholars receive a baseline of two thousand US dollars. Non-Trivial alumni have co-authored a UN report, published at NeurIPS and joined leading universities including MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Oxford and Cambridge.
