About This Opportunity
The National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP), conducted annually by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) since 1987, is India's premier national-level physics examination. It serves as the crucial first stage in the rigorous five-stage selection process for students aspiring to represent India at the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO).
This voluntary exam is conducted at numerous centers nationwide, including those in smaller towns and villages, allowing students to gauge their standing against a national benchmark.
NSEP assesses conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and advanced problem-solving abilities in physics, often going beyond typical school curricula.
Successful candidates from NSEP proceed through a multi-stage selection process, including the Indian National Physics Olympiad (INPhO) and the Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC) at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), ultimately leading to the opportunity to represent India on a global stage.
