About This Opportunity
The Saral Sanskrit Examinations are graded language proficiency tests conducted by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to popularise Sanskrit study among learners of all ages. The programme has run for several decades and is recognised as one of the most accessible structured pathways for Sanskrit learning in India.
The examinations are offered across five sequential levels: Balabodha, Prarambha, Pravesha, Parichaya and Kovida. Each level builds on the previous one in vocabulary, grammar, comprehension and translation skills, with the number of question papers increasing from one at the entry level to four at the Kovida level.
Examinations are held twice every year, typically in February and September, at more than two hundred authorised centres across India and select international locations including South Africa, Mauritius, and Trinidad and Tobago. Bhavan publishes prescribed textbooks for every level in both Hindi and English mediums.
Candidates who clear an examination receive a certificate from Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and are eligible to register for the next graded level. The programme is open to learners of any age with no prior schooling prerequisite.
