Eligibility
Open to bona fide regular school students in Class 6 or above who are below 19 years of age counted from 31 December of the competition year. Boys and girls compete in separate sections. The squad is picked and entered by the SGFI affiliated unit of the state or union territory, and a player may enter a discipline through only one age group in a calendar year.

Fee details
SGFI charges a registration fee of Rs 300 per player, paid online by the state or union territory unit through the unit login on the SGFI site after the online entry. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements. Travel from home to the venue and back is paid for by the participating team, and each affiliated unit must insure its own delegation.

The U-19 age group of the National School Games chess championship is entered, played and medalled on its own. SGFI sets this group as Senior, for players below 19 years of age counted from 31 December of the competition year. A player must also be a bona fide regular student in Class 6 or above.

The championship is contested played over the board in boys and girls sections. Played over the board across the championship days, with the opening ceremony and the first round on the opening day and the final round and closing ceremony on the last.
On arrival the unit hands over two sets of the eligibility papers, and age is verified at the team manager's meeting against the birth certificate and school record. SGFI charges a registration fee of Rs 300 per player, paid online by the unit after the online entry. The organising committee provides accommodation, local transport and the technical arrangements, while travel to the venue and insurance for the delegation are the unit's responsibility.

How entries are judged
Games are won, drawn or lost under the FIDE Laws of Chess, and the final standings rank players by points scored with the tie-breaks the arbiters announce at the technical meeting.

Can a family enter directly?
