About
School Games Federation of India is the apex governing body that promotes and organizes competitive sports for school students across India. It oversees the annual National School Games (NSG), one of the largest school-level multi-sport tournaments in the country, where state and union territory teams compete across more than seventy disciplines in age categories U-14, U-17, and U-19. SGFI works with State School Games Federations and Education Departments to conduct district, state, and national level championships. The federation administers eligibility verification, entry coordination, technical regulations, and selection of athletes who go on to represent India at international school sports events organized by the International School Sport Federation. Founded in 1954, SGFI is recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and is affiliated to the International School Sport Federation. It plays a central role in identifying young sporting talent in India and feeding athletes into national and Olympic-level pathways.
