About this opportunity
The Concord Review is a quarterly academic journal that publishes exemplary history research papers written by secondary school students from around the world. Students submit a completed paper for editorial review, and the strongest work appears in print.
Any student who completed the paper before finishing secondary school and has not yet enrolled in a college or university may submit. Papers must be in English, written by a sole author, and may cover any historical topic, ancient or modern, domestic or foreign. Essays run from 5,000 to 10,000 words or more, with Turabian endnotes and a bibliography.
Selection is demanding, and about five percent of submitted essays are published. Every author who submits receives a one-year subscription to the journal, and published authors may order individual reprints of their essay. Published authors are also considered for the annual Emerson Prize and the Fitzhugh Prize.
The journal accepts submissions on a rolling basis, with four fixed cut-off dates each year, and an essay stays eligible for the next three issues after it is received. The Concord Review states that it is an academic review rather than a contest.

Students published in the journal during the previous academic year are considered for the Emerson Prize, which carries $1,000 for each recipient. Rounds & format

Selection favours an interesting and informative topic that readers learn from, engaging and clear writing, and a substantial bibliography whose sources are actually cited in the endnotes. Extra weight is not given for a long source list that the paper does not draw on.

Author membership with the eBook edition includes a one-year subscription to the electronic edition of the journal is $70. Author membership with the print edition delivered outside the United States costs $150, and $110 for delivery inside the United States, since the print option adds $30 plus shipping and handling. Each additional essay submitted carries its own fee. Payment is accepted by credit card, PayPal or check, and schools submitting a group of essays can pay a single set of invoices.
