About This Opportunity
The Udayan Shalini Fellowship is a long-term scholarship and mentoring programme run by Udayan Care for academically talented girls from economically weaker families. It supports selected fellows from Class XI through graduation or vocational qualification, combining annual financial assistance with structured workshops, career counselling and a pyramid mentoring system that pairs senior Shalinis with juniors.
The programme is open to girls who have completed Class X with at least 60 percent marks, are studying in government or government-aided schools, and whose family annual income is below INR 2,50,000. Selection follows the NAT model focusing on Need, Ambition and Talent through a four-step process of application, written test, personal interview and home visit. The fellowship is offered only in cities where Udayan Care operates a chapter.
Selected Shalinis receive annual financial assistance, life skills and personality development workshops, career and employability training, internship and placement support, and a pyramid mentoring relationship with senior Shalinis and volunteer mentors. Each fellow contributes 50 hours of community service annually as part of the programme.
The fellowship has supported more than 18,500 girls across 38 chapters in 14 to 15 Indian states, with a reported retention rate of 95 percent. It is structured as a five to six year engagement designed to prevent dropout and enable first-generation learners to complete higher education and enter sustainable careers.
