About This Opportunity
The USA Computing Olympiad (USACO) is an online competitive programming contest series that challenges pre-college students to solve algorithmic problems by writing efficient code. Each contest presents three problems to be solved within a fixed time window using languages such as C++, Java, Python, or C.
The contest runs across four divisions, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, with participants promoted to higher divisions by performing well at their current level. Although USACO is a US-based organization, the monthly contests are open to pre-college students worldwide, including students from India, who can register and compete in all rounds.
Participants gain rigorous practice in algorithms, data structures, and problem-solving, supported by the free USACO Guide and an extensive archive of past problems. Strong performance is widely recognized in college admissions for computer science and signals serious algorithmic skill.
Only US residents and US school students are eligible for selection to the US team for the International Olympiad in Informatics, but international students still receive full division progression and standing within the contest.
