About this opportunity
The WAKO India Juniors National Kickboxing Championship is the premier annual national-level kickboxing tournament for Junior athletes in India, organised by the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation under the rules of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations. The championship brings together state-level Junior kickboxers selected through their respective state kickboxing associations to compete for national titles, individual rankings and selection consideration for the Indian national team participating in WAKO World and Continental Junior Championships.
The Junior category is open to athletes aged 16, 17 and 18 years competing across both tatami and ring kickboxing disciplines. Tatami events include Point Fighting, Light Contact and Kick Light, while ring events include Full Contact, Low Kick and K-1 Rules. Athletes compete within standard WAKO weight divisions for boys and girls, with separate brackets per gender, discipline and weight class. The championship follows WAKO international competition rules covering ring procedures, judging, refereeing, anti-doping protocols and protective equipment requirements.
Participation is routed through state kickboxing associations affiliated with WAKO India. Each state nominates eligible Junior athletes who have cleared state-level qualification or selection trials. The championship serves as the principal national platform for Junior kickboxers to gain competitive exposure, earn national medals and progress towards international representation under the WAKO India structure.

Rounds & format
Each weight category is run as a single-elimination knockout bracket: preliminary bouts on the opening competition day, quarter-finals and semi-finals next, and finals on the closing day. There is no bronze medal bout, so both losing semi-finalists are placed third and two bronze medals are awarded in every category. Every bout, in both the tatami and the ring disciplines, is three rounds of two minutes with a one-minute break between rounds. In Point Fighting a drawn bout goes to a one-minute extension, and if the scores are still level the next fighter to score wins under the sudden death rule. The forms events, Creative Forms and Musical Forms, are run as scored pools rather than knockout brackets. Each competitor performs before a panel of five or seven judges, the highest and lowest marks are struck out, and the remaining marks are added together to give the ranking score.
How entries are judged
A bout is won on the judges' scoring, or earlier by stoppage in the ring disciplines. In Point Fighting, three referees work on the tatami and award points for scoring techniques, with the bout stopped and restarted after each exchange; the higher point total wins. Light Contact and Kick Light run continuously and are scored by three judges on technique and control. In the ring disciplines, Full Contact, Low Kick and K-1 Rules, a central referee controls the bout while three judges score each round. A fighter can also win before the final bell by knockout or when the referee stops the contest. In Creative Forms and Musical Forms each judge marks the performance out of ten, the highest and lowest marks are discarded, and the remaining marks are added; the highest total takes the title.
Selection process
Entry is through a state association, not by individual application. An athlete must be registered with a state kickboxing association affiliated to WAKO India, be nominated by that association after its own state-level trials or selection, and be entered on the Sportdata portal by the association. Entries are accepted only in the athlete's own age category, gender and weight division, each confirmed at the official weigh-in and medical check before bouts begin. Medals are decided on the field of play. Every discipline and weight category awards one gold to the bracket winner, one silver to the beaten finalist and two bronze medals, because both losing semi-finalists are placed third and no bronze bout is held. Results feed the national medal tally and are used by the federation when it picks India squads.
