About this opportunity
The Yacht Club of Hyderabad runs a free, year-round competitive sailing programme for children from government and partner welfare schools. Training takes place on Hussain Sagar lake in Hyderabad.
Children do not apply directly. A partner school or welfare institution nominates them, and the club then runs a five-day pre-basic foundation camp. Children who progress move to a basic foundation camp of ten to fifteen days, and a smaller group is selected into the advanced training batch, which trains through the year and races at state, national and international regattas.
Sailing is the anchor for a wider support system. The club funds school fees and after-school tutoring in English, Mathematics and Science, provides quarterly health checks, nutrition support, physiotherapy and counselling, and runs vehicle pick-up and drop for children travelling to sessions. Sailors train across Optimist, Cadet, ILCA, 420, 470 and 29er classes on a fleet the club describes as the largest in India.
The club reports that more than 1,500 children have been trained since 2009 and that 99 percent come from disadvantaged communities. Alumni have been inducted into the Indian Navy and Indian Army Boys Sports Companies through the sports quota, joined the Telangana Police, and returned as coaches and national team managers.

Fee details
The programme is free for every child. Training, boats, kit, coaching, school fees, tutoring, health checks and regatta travel are funded by individual donors and corporate CSR partners under the trust's 80G and CSR-1 registrations. Families are never asked to pay.
