About
Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) is a registered welfare society established in 1983 under the aegis of the Indian Army to oversee educational welfare initiatives for the Army community. The society administers an extensive network of Army Public Schools, Army Pre-Primary Schools, and professional colleges across India, while running scholarship programmes that support the academic journey of children of Army personnel. AWES manages flagship initiatives such as the Education Scholarship Scheme for Army Personnel (ESSA), the Prime Minister's Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) administered for the Army, and the Post Graduate Scholarship Scheme. These programmes provide annual financial assistance to wards pursuing studies from Class 9 through to professional and postgraduate courses, recognising academic merit and supporting continuity of education. Governed by a Board of Administrators chaired by the Chief of the Army Staff, AWES operates from its headquarters at Shankar Vihar, Delhi Cantonment. The society works in close coordination with Army Headquarters, Command Headquarters, and unit welfare officers to deliver scholarships, run educational institutions, and uphold standards of academic excellence for the Army family.
