About This Opportunity
The Education Scholarship Scheme for Army Personnel (ESSA) is a merit-based annual scholarship administered by the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) to support the education of children of serving Indian Army personnel. Introduced in 1978, the scheme recognises academic performance and provides financial assistance to wards studying from Class 9 through professional and postgraduate courses in recognised schools and institutions across India.
Applications are open to wards of serving Army personnel and serving Military Nursing Service (MNS) Officers. The applicant must be below twenty-five years of age at the time of completion of the relevant class or course. Wards of retired Army personnel, Territorial Army personnel, and deceased Army personnel are not covered under this particular scheme and are supported through other AWES welfare measures.
Selected scholars receive an annual scholarship that varies from ₹2000 to ₹10,000 per year, scaled by the level of education, along with a merit certificate from AWES. The award acknowledges sustained academic effort, eases the financial demands of schooling and higher studies, and supports continuity of education for the Army family.
Applications are submitted online through the dedicated AWES portal at armywelfare.mygetepay.com, with verification of the parent's service particulars and the student's marksheet handled through the unit and AWES Headquarters. The scheme runs annually after the declaration of academic results.
