About

The Asia Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO) Committee organizes an annual regional mathematics competition for high school students across the Pacific Rim. Established in 1989, the APMO aims to identify, encourage, and challenge mathematically gifted students, fostering international cooperation and the exchange of educational practices in mathematics. The competition is held annually in March. The competition consists of a four-hour paper with five problems of varying difficulty, each worth a maximum of seven points. Participating countries, including India, organize the competition locally through their representatives. The APMO Committee is responsible for selecting the contest paper, releasing marking schemes, and determining award winners. This Olympiad serves as a significant platform for students to test their problem-solving skills and engage with complex mathematical concepts. It also contributes to the selection process for prestigious international competitions like the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The APMO Committee strives to promote mathematical involvement and excellence across the Pacific-Rim region. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) in Mumbai serves as the nodal center for the Mathematical Olympiad Programme in India, including the APMO, on behalf of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India.
