About
The Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) is an award-winning non-profit organization established in 1980 with the mission to improve mathematics education through an emphasis on mathematical modeling — the use of mathematical tools to explore real-world problems. Over more than 40 years, COMAP has built a global ecosystem of student contests, curriculum resources, and professional development for teachers. COMAP runs several flagship modeling contests that have become standards in mathematics education worldwide. These include the Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling for undergraduates, the High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Middle Mathematical Contest in Modeling for school students, and the International Mathematical Modeling Challenge, which has national qualifying rounds in participating countries including the Indian Mathematical Modeling Challenge. Alongside contests, COMAP develops educational materials such as Discrete Mathematics: Modeling Our World and runs the year-round Mathmodels.org platform for problems and modeling activities. In 2026, COMAP became a first-time Special Award Organization affiliate of the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, further extending its recognition in global STEM education.
