About

The Department of Sports and Youth Welfare is the Madhya Pradesh state government body responsible for sports development and youth welfare. It frames state sports policy, builds and maintains sporting infrastructure, and runs the state academies of excellence. The department drew up a blueprint in 2005 to make the state a leader in sport and began establishing world class academies from 2007 onward. These academies identify talent at the grassroots level and provide full time coaching, sports science support and competition exposure in archery, athletics, badminton, cricket, equestrian, martial arts, hockey, shooting, triathlon and water sports. Entry to the academies is through the department's annual Talent Search programme, which invites online registrations and then holds district and divisional selection trials followed by a state selection camp. Alongside the academies, the department runs the Maa Tujhe Pranam youth scheme, the Pay and Play scheme, the CM Cup and Vidhayak Cup competitions, summer camps and skill development academies operated with partner organisations. Three of its academies are notified as Khelo India State Centres of Excellence, and several others hold Khelo India accreditation, giving them central financial support for sports science, coaching staff and equipment.
