About this opportunity
The Madhya Pradesh State Water Sports Academy of Excellence is a state government training academy in Bhopal that prepares young athletes in five water sports disciplines: sailing, rowing, kayaking, canoeing and canoe slalom.
Training runs through the year on Bhopal's lakes. Sailing and rowing squads train on the Upper Lake, kayaking and canoeing squads train on the Lower Lake, and canoe slalom uses a natural slalom course at Maheshwar. The academy site includes a fitness centre, a physiotherapy room, a practice pool, a conference hall and coaches chambers, along with hostel accommodation for athletes who stay on campus.
Admission is by selection trial rather than open enrolment. The department invites online registrations through its Talent Search portal, holds district and divisional trials across the state, and then runs a state selection camp at Bhopal where shortlisted athletes are screened on physical tests, swimming ability and discipline specific height and weight standards. Selected athletes join either as boarding trainees who live at the academy or as day boarding trainees who attend daily sessions.
Athletes train under departmental coaches, including chief coaches for rowing and for kayaking and canoeing, and separate coaches for sailing and slalom. The rowing wing is one of the three Madhya Pradesh academies notified as a Khelo India State Centre of Excellence.
