Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Pune

Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Pune is a Hindustani classical music education institution offering structured, examination based courses in vocal music, instrumental music, and dance. It was established in 1932 by Pt. Vinayakrao Patwardhan, a senior disciple of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, who founded the original Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Lahore in 1901. The institution is administered by Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (BSPM), a trust registered in 1942 under the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act (Registration No. 1135/1941-42) to support its expanding activities. It operates as an independently registered institution, distinct from the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, whose offices are in Miraj and Navi Mumbai, and conducts its own graded examination system from the beginner Prarambhik level through the advanced Alankar level, offline and online. Courses cover Hindustani vocal music and instruments including tabla, harmonium, flute and synthesizer, as well as dance forms such as Kathak and Bharatanatyam. The institution also runs an affiliation program under which other music teaching centres can offer BSPM recognized courses and examinations.
